- St. Florian is a pre-K through 8th grade elementary school located in the Hegewisch neighborhood in Chicago. We are fully certified by the State of Illinois and the Archdiocese of Chicago providing a Roman Catholic environment focused on educating the whole child – mind, body, and soul.
- St. Florian offers a full academic curriculum with advanced Science, Literature and Mathematics in grades 6 through 8. We also offer a reading resource teacher and a Writing to Read computer based program for our younger students while providing a music program, physical education and computers for all grades.
- National Terra Nova standardized achievement tests show St. Florian students consistently exceed the national average in Reading, Science, Language, Social Studies and Mathematics across all grades tested. In most cases, test scores exceed the national average by 10% or more.
- St. Florian teachers have an average teaching experience of 18 ½ years with over 50% having advanced degrees. Several of our teachers are also certified in Early Childhood Education, Special Education and Speech Pathology.
- St. Florian is the winner of the State of Illinois Challenge Literacy Grant, E Rate Grant and the Trotter Grant.
- St. Florian offers an Internet connected computer laboratory with 45 computers connected to a fiber optic backbone and 2 ISDN lines. St. Florian has been rated as a HIGH TECH SCHOOL by the CEOFORUM.ORG. Coming in school year 2000 – 2001, all classrooms will be equipped with internet connected computers.
- St. Florian offers a wide range of extra curricular activities. Our athletics program includes Basketball, Volleyball and Cheerleading. We also offer Band, Craft Club, Computer After School Club, Study Skills Class, School Newspaper, Earth Force, and Scholastic Service Club along with sponsoring Girl Scouts and Altar Serving. Coming in school year 2000 – 2001, the National Junior Beta Club.
- St. Florian students participate in Energy Fair, National Geography Bee, Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl, Americanism Essay Contest (winner for the past 11 years) and various other writing contests. Our older students also serve as faith models for our younger students in our Prayer Partners program.
