Superintendents, Associate Superintendents, Principals and LAPs,
Happy New Year to all!
I spent a good part of several days updating all of my e-mail listings. If you have any names to add or correct, please let me know.
Well, the tax year 2000 is over and the "filing" begins. I've gotten a number of phone calls on creating the "receipt" for parents and I am happy to pass any information along. Be reminded that schools should have receipts out to parents by January 31, 2001. Anyone needing a copy of the receipt may call our office, 217-528-9200 or access the Illinois Dept. of Revenue WebSite http://www.revenue.state.il.us You will also find "Schedule ED" on there, which is the form on which to figure the tax credit. (see convenient links)
Any questions regarding the tax credit may be directed to me through e-mail or phone. Please don't hesitate to call me.
Update on the 2 lawsuits against the tax credit: The tax credit was "upheld" in the lower courts in both cases (Franklin County-Belleville Diocese and Sangamon County-Springfield Diocese). Both are on appeal. The Sangamon Case was heard in November and we expect a ruling from the Court of Appeals late this month or February. The Franklin Case is being heard TODAY in Mt. Vernon. So watch the papers for the two rulings out of the Courts of Appeal.
MEANTIME, the tax credit is law and is in effect. Please be sure your parents are informed of this credit and take it. $500 can be a nice return for their tuition investment.
The next 2-year cycle of the General Assembly officially begins with inauguration on January 10. As the Catholic Conference issues emerge, I will keep you informed.
Peace in the New Year!
